Springfield 1911 Serial Number History

A serial number preceded by an 'S' indicates an M1911A1 manufact- ured by Singer (not many of these around - an understatement) 3. A serial number preceded by a 'NO' instead of a 'No' indicates manufacture by Remington-Rand. The twenty reference M1911s were not serial numbered by Colt and were marked (and finished) with serial numbers 186 by the Springfield Armory on October 8, 1915.
